Some Nights (Now With Added Video)

7 Jun

N-Dawg (Nate)

Howdy co-mates in (blog) exile! A while back, I posted about fun.’s Some Nights and noted that it was an  ‘obvious follow-up from We Are Young.’ Well. I was right. They just released the video and it’s one of the best music videos that I’ve seen in the last few years. It’s powerful, urgent and urgently sincere. It merges war with an delicate love story, combined with military bombast and a few beautiful conceits (bath-time reading, hand running along fences). Look, you just have to watch this thing:

Man, I can’t quite express how much I love this song (and album). It’s here that I also note how much of an unremitting fan I’ve recently become of fun., Nate, Andrew and Jack. They’re both inspirational and artistically gifted; what’s more, they’re both of those things while staying hugely grounded. That’s what I gather from the 56 video interviews I’ve watched of them. Before I became so well-versed in their music, I noted that there were ‘overtones of Bohemian Rhapsody’ mixed in there. Turns out they’re huge Queen fans. So there you go. I’m both creepy and prophetic. A true Cassandra.

Chasing The Sun: Now With Added Video!

2 May

Chasing . . . The perfect pout.

The video for Chasing The Sun (which I reviewed a few weeks (days?) ago) was released a little while ago but I didn’t write about it for some reason. Possibly owing to this tweet from Nathan (he’s in The Wanted, you understand):

‘Some girls will never understand the importance of important football matches’

Well, yes clearly some girls will never understand the ‘importance of important football matches.’ But as will some boys (this writer included.) So unless Nathan From The Wanted is now our generation’s Arbiter Of Truthful Banality and his next tweet is ‘Sometimes I sleep with one pillow but sometimes two’ I’m going to object to his sexist  gender stereotyping. But Nathan From The Wanted is merely one fifth of The Wanted. And the remaining members of The Wanted (whose tweets I have admittedly not read) are all in the video for Chasing The Sun. As are vampires, some scantily-clad girls (because, of course) and some partying. All the elements you need  for a summer jam:

Lammicken – Braids

21 Sep

Here’s the latest and greatest from Quebec based quartet Braids. Experimental pop hits a high point in Lammicken, a slowly building track from Braids’ sophomore album Native Speaker. Honestly, this one is worth putting on when you’re in the mood to be psychadelic. Don’t you have those moods? Oh, maybe it’s just me.

Alrighty then. That should have you sorted out for this super uninteresting it’s-kind-of-almost-the-weekend-but-not-really Wednesday. Just in case you’re appetite has been well and truly whet, and you’re still hungry for more, you can check out the video of this song below and gawk at the colours.
