Raconte-Moi Une Histoire – M83

27 Jan

You Again: M83 returns to Can You Hear This

We’ve been fairly M83 heavy here recently, for which I make no apologies. Yesterday we took you for a spin to the eery Midnight City and well, things are about to get even eerier. Ranconte-Moi Une Histoire, like most of M83’s work, takes you on a journey from beginning to end. In French. It walks on a thin line between delicate and creepy, and ends up pretty transcendental. It’s beautiful, and a nice way to ease you into Friday. Just one more day, you guys!

Midnight City – The White Panda (M83 & Kanye West)

26 Jan

M83: All kinds of awesome.

M83’s HurryUp,We’reDreaming was one of the my favourite albums of the last year and Midnight City was its stand-out track. I’ve been fairly reliably informed that it’s been featured a few times on Made In Chelsea, which, you know, fine. Here’s a neat The White Panda remix with Kanye West. It’s a pretty perfect tune for kicking back after a day of school/work/being awesome:

The Can You Hear This Countdown: Album of the Year

21 Dec

Picture Perfect: 2011’s best (according to Henry, Michael, Jonah and Bal) albums

Ho, ho, ho. Welcome to the second installment of the Can You Hear This Countdown (we’re going to work on a better name for next year but as I am editing this at 2:00 am that’s what you’re getting- Merry Christmas.) We’re moving on from single of the year to album of the year now. Since I started writing for Can You Hear This, I’ve noticed how much more I listen to albums as a whole. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with just listening to singles (hell, most of my favourite artists are probably classified as singles artists) but when you hear 10 or so tracks back to back, it can lend individual songs more coherency. Of course, it can also make something seem even more incongruous but I crave context. And in 2011, albums like 4 and Take Care only really come into their own when heard as a whole. So there you go, my new years resolution: Listen to more albums. I’m a man of ambition, you can see. Final installment’s on Friday (Friday, Friday.)

10 Things I Love About Pop: Week 3

22 Oct

Your Weekly Dose of Pop: Flo, Kelly x 2, Tulisa and the dreamy M83.

Last week’s 10 TILAP was rather X Factor-heavy. To which I say ‘No problem!’/’I’m sorry’ depending on your view of television shows that think The U.S vs. The U.K is an actual theme. Anyway, lots of other things happened in the world of popular music this week, hard as it is to imagine anything outside the world of SyCo entertainment. After the jump we have Florence + The Machine, The Roots and Mazzy Star.

Midnight City – M83

21 Jul

French musician and dream pop guru Anthony Gonzalez (stage name M83) just yesterday released the single Midnight City from his upcoming album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. M83 (named after a galaxy. Can’t get much cooler) look set to tour the United States in October to promote the new album. Take a listen to this beauty:

How’s that for awesome? M83 is, in my opinion, one of the kings of electro. If this song resembles the album in any way, then there is serious reason to get excited. There is even a saxophone on this track. What more could you ask for? A free download? Oh okay, here’s an answer to your prayers, as they’ve given it away for free off of their website.
