Channel Orange – Frank Ocean

11 Jul

So many things running through my head right now. Yes, I just did a post about Frank when I myself champion variety. Yes, Channel Orange was scheduled for a later release, and yes, I have to learn many pointless things for my British Citizenship test (including that Welsh is most widely spoken in Wales. Who would have thought?). But just please….

Underground Kings – Drake

8 Nov

Another album for which there has been an absolutely massive amount of anticipation. Drake’s Take Care is his second full album, and after early releases of Marvin’s Room, Headlines, and Trust Issues, everybody who loves Drake could not be more excited. The official release is set for November 15th, but over here, we got lucky and I managed to get my hands on an early copy.

I’m On One (Piano Remix) – Bei Maejor

15 Sep

Really sorry for the lack of posting, but me and the others are just being bombarded with tidal waves of work, and so it’s really tough to find the time some days. I’ll keep it short and sweet today and leave you with a little tune I’ve been enjoying over the past week. Bei Maejor covers Drake with his piano-based cover of I’m On One. Enjoy:

The Zone – The Weeknd (feat. Drake)

19 Aug

Serious apologies about the lack of recent posting. I had to spend the night in the airport, Henry is travelling all over Asia, and Michael and Luke are also caught up. Here’s a treat for you though. Since I last wrote about The Weeknd, his popularity has increased by a huge amount. Drake also seems to have adopted him as a personal favorite. The Zone comes off of The Weeknd’s official mixtape release, entitled Thursday. Take a listen.

Drake’s latest releases (Marvin’s Room & Trust Issues) fit perfectly with the sound that The Weeknd has been producing all along, and in my opinion, the two voices blend together really well on this track. It’s a treat that the whole thing is being given away completely for free. Really brightened up my day, and hopefully it will do the same for you.

Up Up Up (CSS Remix) – Givers

24 Jul

The Louisiana quintet Givers just ooze bohemian cool. Quirky and off-beat, Givers do quite literally give your ears a treat of rhythm and harmonies. Givers released their fist full length album, In Light last month and first single Up Up Up. It’s indie pop loveliness. The video below for Up Up Up is just as nice and funky as the song.

But ahead of their forthcoming UK tour, Givers are giving you a CSS remix of Up Up Up absolutely free on their Soundcloud. Almost as good as the real thing, this free taster, if you’re not a convert already, should do the trick!

Young, Wild & Free – Wiz Khalifa (feat. Snoop Dogg)

23 Apr

Heard this the other day, and thought it was a great chillout song. Wiz Khalifa and Snoop joined forces in order to produce a soundtrack for the film High School. It’s going straight to DVD, so it might be reasonable to assume that it won’t be bagging any Oscars.

The piano in the backing is what really makes this song fun and relaxed for me. Wiz has a solid verse, and as usual, Snoop Dogg’s voice is awesome. The track has a kind of “I don’t give a shit” feel to it, which is cool. It’s basically an explanation to old people of how high school kids are bad. To be honest, if someone had to explain it, I’d want these two to do it.
