Channel Orange – Frank Ocean

11 Jul

So many things running through my head right now. Yes, I just did a post about Frank when I myself champion variety. Yes, Channel Orange was scheduled for a later release, and yes, I have to learn many pointless things for my British Citizenship test (including that Welsh is most widely spoken in Wales. Who would have thought?). But just please….

Idea of Happiness – Van She

9 Jul

Had to pry myself away from that unbelievable Wimbledon final yesterday in order to bring you this, so please feel special. Here’s a colourful summer tune that you can blast while chilling out and drinking Corona (my favorite).

Sweet Life – Frank Ocean

7 Jul

World, let it be known that I love Frank Ocean. The singer has been in the limelight recently after a post on his Tumblr that appeared to tell of a summertime romance with another guy caused the world to label him as gay or bisexual. Fear not, Frank. In the words of Celine Dion, I will always love youuuuuuuuu…

The Re-Arranger – Mates Of State

7 Jul

I’m back. And I’m back fucking hate all things pop. 24-7 Tulisa is enough to drive anyone to such a conclusion to be honest. So now you have to deal with me indulging in my one and only musical love – the (moderately) obscure. Continue reading

He Said I Said – Cooly G

5 Jul

With the others all on holiday celebrating the end of the school year, it’s up to me and Henry to hold down the blog fort. I thought it would be difficult to satisfy all of you, but then I actually remembered that we’re the coolest ones anyways, and so in a way it filters out all of the bad, leaving you with only the best. (Disclaimer: I’m not actually saying the others are terrible. Otherwise why would they be here? They’re all great. Except Michael. Just kidding. (Or am I?) I am).

Let It Be (feat. Veela) – Blackmill

3 Jul

Ah, nothing like a night in the freezing cold English countryside to help you forget about your city problems. Having (not really) slept on the floor of a dusty old barn, the 2 hour car journey home needed music that would be enjoyable for bleary-eyed teenagers. Fortunately, Blackmill was there to save the day.

Pyramid Lake – Hiatus

29 Jun

Recently, I have been missing this man’s music in my life. I absolutely loved his Ghost Notes EP. Hiatus has a knack for blending heart-wrenching melodies with softly profound backings that when combined form something truly incredible. I urge you to listen to his latest offering after the jump.

We Like To Stare – Aztecs

27 Jun

I actually heard about this song long ago, but couldn’t find anywhere to download it, so I had to contact the band personally and ask for it so I could write about it. Since then, things have been made much easier, and there is a free download link available (which I will grant you later in the post), but for now, read about the exciting talent that is Aztecs.

Sweet Thing – Van Morrison

26 Jun

Once in a while I love to bring out a golden oldie. Van Morrison is one of those guys whose albums sit in my iPod, but I tend to ignore them whenever I scroll past them because they’ve been there for so long. Well, you can thank shuffle for reminding me of how much of a sweet thing Sweet Thing is. “Van the Man” is the man in every sense of the word. Take a listen to this absolute classic.

Daphne – Lia Ices

21 Jun

Lia Ices: I went through every ice cream jokes I could think of and ruled every single one out.

This one’s coming at you from Girls again. Love Is Won (below) was featured in the fade out/credits of the penultimate episode and suited the mood perfectly. It could have worked at the end of the season finale too. Anyway, Lia Ices is/has about to explode/exploded with her new album, Grown Unknown which is fantastic. If you liked The xx, you’ll like her. Listen to Love Is Won and check out DAphne after the jump. And thank Girls later.
