Fire – The Submarines

30 Jan

If I was able to choose a second single in the ‘Best Single of 2011’ category, this would have been it. That is how highly I rate the indie pop gem that is Fire, with its perfect upbeat tone and soothing sounds of Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti.

And if that’s not enough, then here’s the icing on the cake: Hazard and Dragonetti have been an on-off couple, connecting romantically as well as musically, so the meaning of the song becomes elevated through this deeper understanding and obvious chemistry.

But wait, there’s more! Hazard is the great-granddaughter of F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby, which encapsulates how well she manages to pull off the Gatsby-esque glamour of the video. Also, I freaking adore Fitzgerald and that particular novel, so it came as another source of joy.

Peruse and download The Submarines here.
