A Real Hero – College (feat. Electric Youth) (Drive Soundtrack)

This album artwork should give you an idea how crazily cool Ryan Gosling is in Drive

I saw lots of films this weekend. Green Lantern – bad, Tinker Tailor – better, Drive… Drive is just one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Beautifully filmed, magnificent acting (Ryan Gosling performs like Clint Eastwood) and one of the best soundtracks ever. Drive represents a moment in a cinematic history and this is helped hugely by a wonderful score. Henry’s looked at such things before so check his thoughts out but I’m going to give you some life-changing advice instead.

See the film. Multiple times. Then buy the soundtrack. Game changer of a bit of advice right? Since this is a music blog – Can You HEAR This as opposed to Can You SEE This (coming 2012…not really) – I’ll focus on the soundtrack. Cliff Martinez and others have produced a “slicker than oil” album that compliments the film perfectly and makes you feel oh so cool.

Electric Youth

Electric Youth

The electronic ambience it creates reminds me of Moon and the power of the sound, especially with the movie, is simply mind-blowing. My favourite track is without doubt A Real Hero. When you hear it in the movie’s most poignant moments, it’s enough to make anyone cry (but much of the movie is I suppose). It’s deliciously sweet and deeply moving (but then again so is Carey Mulligan (I think I love her)).

So follow my advice. See the movie and buy the soundtrack. Drive is just a ridiculously wonderful package and I’m finding it really hard to put into words so enjoy it for yourself!
