Darling Buds Of May – Brother

Brother band promo shoot

“We’re going to be f**king huge (is it okay to swear!?).” Typically if a band goes and says something like this, particularly in NME, I instantly hate them. But the thing that makes Brother different is that, after listening to their scintillating debut, I believe them. Brother are a four-piece that popped up in September and have gathered a significant following since. They’ve appeared in NME (obviously) and are working on a debut with Stephen Street, the music producer behind The Smiths and blur.

2011 is meant to be the year that British rock reclaims the chart (cross everything and hope) and Brother will be leading the charge. Darling Buds of May is their debut single and so much of it reminds me of Oasis. And it’s about time someone stepped up into that void. It’s a sing-along rock anthem which, if accompanied by a good album, could see Brother and with them, mainstream alternative rock, back to the top of the charts.
